Temperature and Weather: 65 degrees, overcast, a little sprinkling
Habitat:
Pine trees, small hills with short dry grasses, balsam root, dry and rocky outcroppings
Comments: At mile 23, we passed through a wet basalt canyon - kind of swampy on either side of trail. Aspen trees, cattails, dock plants, horsetails coming up, very tall pine trees, and two hawks just outside of canyon / followed a stream for quite a ways. Grass grows in clumps, some exposed soil.

Temperature and Weather: 65 degrees, overcast, a little sprinkling
Habitat: Thin forest of pine, fallow field to south. Hills, aspen and apple trees, some new kinds of foliage. Some stinging nettles near creek, reeds along trail.

Took detour around Rock Lake - trail closed
due to private land ownership. Missed about 26 miles of trail. Passed beautiful
rocky canyon with stream meandering through swampy land in middle of gorge,
also a few lakes, including Rock Lake which is bordered by rocky outcroppings
