Day 4
Rained again last night! Not too much, though.
Camped in a pretty rough, rocky field and many of the group had trouble sleeping.
Not me, though. I was beat from yesterday. Everybody woke up around 7:00AM today.
It is a cloudy morning, light breeze, and slightly chilly, but not too cold.
Granola for breakfast. Expect to hike approximately 11 miles today, which will
take us to the start of our detour. Mo has to drive us around Rock Lake because
the trail doesn’t exist around it. Hopefully it will be sunny so we can go swimming.
Should pass through the town of Malden after 2.5 miles. Quite a hike today!
Malden is an extremely small town. Only the post office was open. They had one
generic postcard which I used to write my parents. Hiked through more Ponderosa
Pine forest today. Cody found much petrified wood on the trail. Right after
lunch, we passed through the even smaller town of Pine City. Cody and I passed
by a huge steel wheat processor and we looked at an electric board that was
flashing numbers at us. We were standing on a huge concrete pad that weighed
trucks. Together, Cody and I weigh 330 pounds. At the end of the hike today
everyone fell asleep. No coyotes today. Cody and I saw a dead horse and a lot
of hawks. Brandy is getting more manageable to be around when we are not hiking.
Instead of barking at us to play fetch with her, she collapses and goes to sleep.
