11:30AM

90 miles

Location: (UTM) 11T0286204/5190591, 500ft.

Temperature and Weather: 84 degrees, sunny and a little hazy

Habitat: We are surrounded by willow trees in an area full of small ponds and wetlands and cattails.  The trail is bordered by short sage-looking shrubs with needle leaves.  These have no odor.  I have seen a lot of small white daisies which look mostly like plairs daisies.  The light purple daisies that I thought were rough daisies I now think may be cushion daisy, which can come in white and light to dark purple.  Short reddish grass, as usual.

Two mule deer spotted.  In half-dried ponds, there were many birds that I first thought were dippers. They
have white bodies, light brown heads, and a black-tipped wings.  Their bodies are about the size of
slender ducks with long skinny legs and thin peaked beaks.  They make a high-pitched short peeping
noise repeatedly.  I have no idea what they are.

3:05PM

95 miles

1/2 mile east of Beverly

Location: 11T0277594/5191075

Temperature and Weather: 85 degrees, muggy and hazy; slightly cloudy

Habitat: A couple kinds of sagebrush; tumble mustard (small yellow flower, stingy green branches), some purple sage, lots of little daisies: white-, bright yellow linear leaf, light purple.  Out of the willow trees and mosquitos now, lots of ticks.  Some small lupin growing close to the ground - first I've seen of this kind.  Short grass, rocky outcroppings.  Saw some very tall grass for the first time - over 6 feet with thick orange flowers.
