The temperature is about 56 degrees at 1200 feet.
We took shelter yesterday at an old abandoned granary right next to what used to be the old general store. Later during the night Mo, Chris, Scott and I sat around by a campfire made of an old tin can with bullet holes in it and wood from around the old collapsed general store. The fire was totally self-contained. It was really nice. It was the first fire we've had.
This place for lack of better terminology smells like shit...like a lot of shit. I don't know why but I'll be glad to finally get moving. It's nice and sunny today thankfully. There is a dead raven like ten feet away from me. It's in the middle of the field. I'm pretty sure it died while in flight. There are also these really big holes dug into the ground. They're so big - I'm almost guessing fox holes. I'd say they were 1.5 feet - 2 in diameter - So I don't know.
Today it's only Martha, Cody, Peter and me. Chris is off looking at the geography of some park. Scott is biking the trail today and Mo...well he's always driving.
We're going through the coolest roadcut. This must be a frequented spot for coyotes to bring their prey 'cause I've found two more skulls. They're small so I'm assuming sheep, deer, or small calf. I saw another small skull earlier today. Then I found all kinds of bones a huge chunk of vertebrate (with a very small amount of meat left on it) sheep skin and cows skin. Also a large hip bone - also the cows I'm assuming. I also found in this one road cut tons of discarded beer bottles and general trash. But tons of the trash were illegally dumped stuff like motor oil, fabric softener and other weird oils. And to top it off - in this romantic little road cut - a condom (hey good for them for using one).

Today has been about bones. I've seen a lot of them. I just passed the femur of a cow - and I've been
passing smaller bones too. I saw cassadra hawk today. It was amazing!
I've never seen a white hawk before!! I always see the red tails.
I also saw the back end of some kind of critter that was bigger then any
squirrel and it didn't have a tail. It was about the size of a large guinea
pig. I just saw it as it was jumping into some bushes to get away from
me. I tried to no avail to scare it out of hiding. There are also
a lot of red ant hills on the trail today. I see a new hill about every
100ft. at the very least. I would say, more than that though I wonder
why they're popping up now? The trail seems a good place for them though.
When I was a little girl in grade school I would always watch the red
ants during lunch - they always made their homes next to the track around the
field - so it's no surprise this trail would make a good home.
