The temperature is about 84 degrees at 500 feet.
We've been going through wetlands all morning. There is desert all around with lots of stiff sagebrush still but along the sides of the trail are spring ponds that are drying up - overflow from the creek. We came through a patch of water that was a deep red color and there were large navy-colored birds as big as a crane but with a straight long slender neck and nothing too distinguishing about it. I'll have to look that up along with two other birds, one black and white about the size of a small duck with a short neck and reddish-maroon colored legs. The other had a longer neck that was tan and around the head a darker brownish color. The wings were black and white with long legs. It also had a very distinct slender beak.
There are a lot more daisies today. We're having some trouble with what kind they are.

We got met by the van right now and we've come into sand dunes and back into desert, it's flat and dry. It's been overcast as the day has gotten later - which gives the atmosphere and the mosquitoes a more deviant feel.
I'm finally getting a chance to look through the sagebrush book and here are some of the most common flowers since we've come into this desert area: Yarrow, Fiddleneck Amsinckia, Tumble Mustard, some kind of daisy (I'm almost positive it's Shaggy Daisy.) Grasses: Steppe Bluegrass or Bluebunch Wheatgrass, Cheat Grass. Bushes: Stiff Sagebrush, Rabbit Brush.
