Day 6
Rest day today! Woke up in a hotel bed! I woke up at 5:30 because of habit from getting up on the trail. Went back to sleep and Cody and I woke up again at 8:00. We took advantage of the free hotel buffet. I ate 3 bowls of cereal, 4 doughnuts, several glasses of OJ, and lots of fresh fruit. It was a sunny day all day, but cold. We all had lunch at Perkins, next to the hotel. I ate another heaping portion of food. Cody was in disbelief. Finally we checked out of the hotel, got fresh perishable food for dinner, and drove out to the trailhead at 3:00. On our way, I saw the biggest dust devils ever! At first they looked like huge columns of smoke, but when you looked closely, I saw that they were huge pillars of swirling dust, several hundreds of feet tall! They looked like real tornadoes. There were three big ones and many small ones.
We got to the trailhead around 3:30 just outside of ?. Cody and I walked down the road and explored an abandoned house. It was falling apart rapidly. The whole thing was riddled with bullet holes and filled with pigeons and mice. It was pretty cool.
Ate dinner at 6:30. Had tortillas and
beans.
