It is about 70 degrees at 1600 feet.

The glaciated mountains start from this point on to have coniferous trees that I can see from here.  (They are the foothills to the Cascades - Elk Mtn.)  In front of me to the west are the Cascades.  They appeared for the first time right out of the firing range.  As far as I can see is all settled below the ranges that encompass the area.  The wind is bringing in a storm. (I think it might rain.)  The day was hot and now with the dark clouds coming in it gives the night a humid feel.

My foot really hurts today.  It's kinda swollen.  I don't know what the deal is.  I hope it's not infected.  It doesn't quite seem infected.  We wandered around town today and met the coolest people.  It was a good afternoon.  Then to top it all off, I had this killer cheese bagel - with cream cheese, dijon mustard, avocado, peppered turkey, tomato, sprouts - it was amazing and a stawberry-banana-apple smoothie.

We walked a mile and a half or so into the trail today tod camp and we've found this nice spot next to a little stream bed.  It's such an abrupt end to the desert that has been so long - and now there are tons of willows and aspens and grasses and everywhere is settled farmland.  So, it's so green all of a sudden.

There are lots of tiny grasshoppers jumping on my tent.  I had to look really close to see that they were grasshoppers.

There are also tons of bones scattered across our camping area - from one cow that coyotes probably feasted on.
