The Location

Buenos Aires is a huge and beautiful city that offers wonderful cultural attractions. Forty percent of the Argentine population resides in Buenos Aires and surrounding areas. Known as the "Paris of the Americas", Buenos Aires is a cosmopolitan city where you can enjoy very affordable music, theatre and dance shows of unsurpassed quality in Latin America. Tango, of course, is the soul of Buenos Aires and is performed in supper clubs and in the streets.

There are many other places to visit in Argentina, such as Patagonia, Iguazú Falls and the Andean region. Air and ground transportation leaves from Buenos Aires to these and other destinations daily. For more information on possible places to visit in Argentina, check the following websites: http://www.welcomeargentina.com/, http://www.enargentinaturismo.com.ar/, and the section on tourism in http://www1.lanic.utexas.edu/la/argentina/

Internships and Spanish Language

Students will complete an internship form (follow this link to see an example of the form) and obtain the required signatures. Evelia Romano will be your faculty sponsor, and your field supervisor will be the teacher or professional that will be closest to you during your observations/work at the bilingual schools. Your placement will be arranged by the ESSARP, the association that coordinates and works with bilingual schools in the River Plate (for more information, check their website, www.essarp.org.ar).

Students will be expected to do a minimum of 10 hours (4 credits) for their internship component and a maximum of 20 hours (8 credits) if they are enrolled for full session.

For the other 4-8 credits, students will enroll in a Spanish school (we recommend LINKS) Spanish instruction, and /or attend a weekly seminar on English teaching methodology. The Spanish school Links (www.linksargentina.com) offers Spanish intensive courses along with a full and varied social program including excursions (accomodation is available upon request). For more information, you can e-mail the school directly: links @sinectic.com.ar.
