Welcome
During the 2002-2003 Academic year, a group of twenty undergraduates students and faculty of The Evergreen State College conducted original research, analyzed, and wrote the first comprehensive overview of the conservation movement in Washington State. Defending Wild Washington
was written under the premise that it takes an informed and dedicated citizenry to enact change.
To become informed and inspired the authors traveled and hiked throughout the State of Washington, meeting with conservationists, wildlife biologists, volunteer activists, and anyone involved with wild land protection.
When the students started the project they questioned their ability to authoritatively address the issues presented in the book. By the final submission of the draft manuscript to The Mountaineers Books they had become the experts they worked so thoughtfully to portray. This website provides access to the authors, their experiences, and the knowledge they acquired during the production of Defending Wild Washington.
