SHOPPING LIST FOR NEWFOUNDLAND/LABRADOR RECIPES

Meat:
18 cod cheeks (fleshy exterior) or cod tongues (fleshy, tougher interior)
2 lb. salt beef
small amount of pork fat cut into 1/4 inch cubes (“scruncheons”)

Dairy:
1/3 c. butter
3/4 c. melted butter
2-1/2 c. well-chilled whipping cream
4 large egg whites

Produce:
1 lemon (zest enough for 1 t.)
6 carrots (cut in half)
6 potatoes (cut in half if they are large)
1 head cabbage
1 medium turnip cut into six pieces
3 c. partridgeberries (or lingonberries, or cranberries if you can’t get either)
mint sprigs

Grains:
3/4 c. flour
3 c. bread crumbs

Miscellaneous:
2 c. yellow split peas
1 t. ginger
1 t. allspice
1 t. cinnamon
1 T hot water
2 c. raisins
1-1/2 c. molasses
1/2 c. brown sugar
3 c. white sugar
3-1/2 c. flour
1 t. baking soda
2 t. baking powder
1/3 c. light corn syrup
salt
pepper
