This school year (2007-2008) is my 17th year of teaching at Evergreen. I am currently working on a biography of the great sean-nós singer Joe Heaney with Dr. Lillis Ó Laoire of the National University of Ireland in Galway. This book, Bright Star of the West: Joe Heaney, Irish Song-Man, will be published by Oxford University Press, possibly in early 2009. I have also been (slowly) revising the mystery novel that I wrote during my sabbatical, and becoming a better musician on the Irish fiddle and the classical guitar.

My other current writing project is the completion of a textbook titled The Garland Handbook of Southeast Asian Music (Routledge), which I co-edited with Terry Miller of Kent State University.
