Students interested in doing solar astrophysics research with Zita should email her about the possibility of doing Undergraduate Research (for how many credits?) Subject header = Solar contract. List concise information about any background you may have in astronomy, calculus, physics (electromagnetism? using integral or differential equations?) and computers (Linux-based OS? IDL?) What other academic program(s) are you taking?
We usually have a small group of solar physics students with a variety of backgrounds, working together to learn basics, more advanced material, and/or to continue research done in recent summers (e.g. the STAR project) by Evergreen students in Palo Alto (at the Lockheed Martin Solar and Astrophysics Lab, cooperating with Stanford's REU program). Our work includes analysis of data from the Solar Dynamics Observatory, launched in Feb. 2010.
Students interested in doing summer research with Zita should ideally take Matter & Motion or higher level physics programs, enroll in Undergraduate Research and/or Astronomy & Cosmologies in Spring, and discuss your interest by email well in advance.
